If you're into poppy breaks and quirky samples you'll
love these. I'm involved in the label that originally signed these
guys. I was so taken with what they had to offer, I asked to be part
of the action. Bubble Gum Recordings is actually run by a few people:
two guys who do the production work, Mitch and Dave Remes, Del Edwards
- a drum and bass impresario, and myself.
The first CD from these guys did very well in the
press, and was picked up by a number of local and national radio stations.
I think X-fm gave the CD a few spins, and so did London Live. The
latest CD, Ladyboy Pt.2 was championed by Mark Radcliff on Radio 1
and my office was swamped with phone calls from people wanting the
single.
The re-release of 'Loose Threads' caught the attention
of Radio One yet again, and the single received plays from Chris Moyles,
Scott Mills and Mark Radcliff. The album 're:arrange me' has been
ready for a while now and is due for release in Spring 2004.

MAGAZINE / INTERNET REVIEWS
LOOSE THREADS EP
MIXMAG
Composed over the Net and via email, though you'd never guess it from
the superlative production standards evident on this undulating breakbeat
marathon. 'Loose Threads'- one minute progressive hypnodelic funk,
the next ska-inflected chug house- is so deep that even Hercule Poirot
would struggle to get to the bottom of it.

WHAT'S ON LONDON
A cross between the Get Carter theme tune, Portishead and the original
Sneaker Pimps yet in a chilled out, spaced-out, psychedelic class
of its own. Mu-Kau compose their music via the net and email, and
may be the world's coolest virtual band yet.

WAX
Edging on the jazz funk end of things, "Loose Threads" is
a very pleasurable piece of music to listen to. Cool Rhodes piano
sounds drift in and out of big echoes, with a sweet trippy vocal over
the top. Not dance floor mash-up material, but definitely one for
early evening warm ups.8/10

SEVEN MAGAZINE
One of an illustrious set of breakbeat tunes to sample Northern soul
classics, 'Loose Threads' uses big chunks of a Tommy Neal stormer,
combined with funky beats and a lovely vocal from Clare Finglass,
makes for a bit of a beat treat for the floor. 4/5

JOCKEY SLUT
Curious little record, this. Pulling in a whole range of influences,
this three-piece band fuse old-style reggae skank with '60s-tinged
pop, based around the breathy vocals of Clare Finglass. Not the most
easy record to categorise in the racks, but don't let it fall into
the gaps between genres.

Here's a bit of technological innovation for you. Three people living
in Birmingham, Bristol and Dublin who never meet up (cough!) but still
make music together. How do they do it? The Internet of course. The
results are surprisingly consistent, coming together as sprightly
70's spy funk with floating vocals. There's all manner of weird and
wonderful keyboard noises thrown into the mix, plus some well layered
beats and a smooth arrangement. A bit different and worth a listen."

MUSIC WEEK - March 3rd 2003
Mu-Kau is apparently Japanese for 'move forward'
and should not confused
with a big beast. That said, Remes Brothers mix of the title track
is a bit
of a monster and, coupled with airplay support from Mark and Lard
and Chris
Moyles, this should do well for this original act.
LADYBOY PT. 2
WAX MAGAZINE
Cute disco track written over the internet between the three members.
Endearing guitar flutters and electric keys spark over a warm bass
line. The extraordinary vocals of Dubliner,Claire Finglass, weirdly
shimmer with Asiatic promise, and raise it above your usual disco
fare. On the flip, an Agent Sumo remix with dramatic shards of strings
and organ and a top key change. Camp as you like, but classy and posh
too, Just like a real Ladyboy!

MUZIK MAGAZINE
Entirely remarkable if pleasant house, given a re-rub by Agent Sumo
that makes all the instruments sound like they're running backwards.
The result is the warmest, most gorgeous of analogue bubblebaths,
so get on it, 'Matey' do you see? If only the expression 'progressive
house' meant this sort of stuff rather than endless, emotionless cack-biscuits
for boring twits.

This, the new single taken from MU-KAU's much anticipated debut album,
Love You Longtime, was written online, inspired by the cult 70s exploitation
flick 'Shocking Asia'. Once again, the folksy, sugar coated vocals
of Dublin's Clare Finglass meet with a surreal poppy quirkiness that
has given Mu-Kau one of the most distinctive sounds in dance music.
